Cosmetics
Characterization of cosmetics
Cosmetics are generally powder or emulsion based products. Their quality and behavior are influenced by variations in particle size, particle shape, rheology, emulsion stability and composition. Legislation is increasing for the ingredients in cosmetic products, which is specifically related to the safety of the components with respect to their particle size.
Malvern provides a range of easy-to-use particle characterization, chemical identification and rheology systems which can be applied to the study of cosmetics.
Characterizing the physical and chemical properties of cosmetics can help:
- Optimize the stability and quality of formulations
- Enhance product and process knowledge
- Understand and reduce product issues and costs
- Streamline manufacturing processes
- Provide regulatory evidence
- Aid intellectual property protection.
Malvern solutions for Cosmetics
Optimizing topical skin care formulations and production
Particle size and zeta potential are fundamental parameters that control stability of suspensions. This study was conducted to optimize manufacturing process...
Monitoring pigment milling processes using Dynamic Light Scattering
The results detailed in this application note show that monitoring of milling processes can be successfully achieved using dynamic light scattering at concentrations...
Characterisation and use of liposomes
Size largely determines the sites of action of liposomes. Zeta potential measurement enables the factors affecting size to be investigated.
Zeta Potential Characterization of Concentrated Titanium Dioxide Slurries with the ZEN1010 High Concentration Cell
Titanium dioxide is widely used as a pigment in products such as paints, coatings, paper, food and cosmetics, due to its high refractive index. In order to achieve maximum...
Characterisation of mixed micelles
Micelle size is an important parameter which correlates with solubilizing efficiency and critical micelle concentration. In this report, the Malvern instruments Zetasizer Nano ZS...
Morphologi G3: Understanding Mineral based Make-up using Size, Shape and Intensity Measurements
Mineral-based powder make-up is an increasingly popular consumer care product where particles of specific size and shape are blended to obtain a product that...
